Sociopolitical analyst and entrepreneur Frank Gashumba has assured the Banyarwanda community in Uganda, known as Abavandimwe, that a festival called the Abavandimwe Carnival is in the planning stages. During a press conference on January 25, 2025, at the Kampala Serena Hotel, Gashumba spoke about the recent Executive Order signed by President Museveni.
The vibrant philanthropist, who has been actively advocating for the new executive order that grants the Bavandimwe equal rights as other Ugandans, stated that meetings will be organized across various regions of Uganda.

An enthusiastic Gashumba expressed that the Abavandimwe Carnival is an idea being considered by the Bavandimwe leadership, and formal announcements will be made in due course. He mentioned that it will be the largest Carnival ever held in Uganda, featuring all the prominent Bavandimwe artists from the country. He playfully noted the presence of beautiful women, as the tribe is celebrated for its attractive members.
“I’m telling you that this achievement is a significant one that deserves a grand celebration. We will organize a Bavandimwe carnival in the near future, and it will be the largest the country has ever witnessed. All the Bavandimwe artists you recognize in Uganda will perform at this occasion. Additionally, it will feature some of the most stunning and finest Bavandimwe women in the country,” he remarked.

It has been reported that for a considerable time, the Bavandimwe have faced dissatisfaction due to various forms of discrimination within the country, particularly in government agencies such as NIRA and Internal Affairs. Additionally, many individuals from the community have experienced unlawful termination, rejection, or confiscation of their passports and National IDs purely based on their ethnicity.
Nonetheless, the newly signed Executive Order aims to resolve their grievances and promote equality.
